slow, conscious craft meets natural wellness

apothecary verde offers a variety of cold-process soap-making workshops as an opportunity to practice mindfulness and connect to community while creating a functional product designed to take good care of you.

cold-process soap making is a fascinating alchemy with a storied history that dates back thousands of years and spans multiple cultures and regions.

immersing yourself in this craft, with its ancient roots, while honorably using materials (often organic!) sourced direct from our planet is a deeply grounding and centering experience.

how it works

the apothecary’s community soap making events combine education and a partial demonstration of cold-process soap making with hands-on participation. after an introduction to the art & science of soap-making and viewing the batching of our house soap recipe, you’ll have time to peruse the apothecary’s standard collection of essential oils, natural clays/colorants, and botanicals and design a batch tailored specifically to you.

a batch from scratch session is a full immersion into the soap-making process. you’ll learn more about the chemistry of soap-making, and will cook your own batch of our house soap recipe. you’ll make a two and a half pound batch of soap, and will have access to upgrade to premium oils & additives.

please note: all workshop soaps will remain at the apothecary to cure for a few weeks after the workshop, and then you can arrange to pick them up, or opt to have them direct shipped to you for a fee.

*unless alternate options are agreed upon, soaps will remain available for pickup for 45 days after you are first contacted to pick them up. after 45 days, any remaining soaps will be donated.

what to expect

what’s included

all raw materials, aromatherapy and botanical ingredient resources and education, and all tools and equipment needed for the project + safety goggles, gloves, and masks will be provided as needed (cold-process soap-making involves some chemistry). for community events, each individual batch nets one pound of soap. batch from scratch sessions net loaves of soap weighing approximately two and a half pounds.

what to bring

plan to wear old clothing or bring an apron, as you will be working with oils and clays that could stain. closed toe shoes  are required for batch from scratch sessions. byo/beverage welcome for any booked event.

rates, dates & how to book

community soap making is scheduled monthly, and is a fun way to meet great new people with like-minded interests. group size for these workshops is 4-6, and the batch size per student is one pound (4 bars) + a fully cured bar to take home the day of class.

if the minimum registration requirement of 4 is not met for a community session, class will be canceled and students will be refunded.

batch from scratch bookings may be booked via the calendar link below. these are not private bookings, but attendance per session is limited to 3 students, and the batch size per student is two and a half pounds (10 bars) + a fully cured bar to take home the day of class. batch from scratch sessions for 2024 are fully booked. subscribe to be alerted when more sessions open!

*please advise of any nut, plant, fruit, botanical, or latex allergies before registering for a soap-making event. we can isolate ingredients by request, but our apothecary, soap lab, and aromatherapy bar cannot be guaranteed nut or allergen-free.
